He Was Dangerous

"We must do what we can do for God, before God gives us the power to do what we cannot do" - Leonard Ravenhill

Some men preach the word of God, and with hearty Amens and grateful hearts we later discuss the sermon saying, "wasn't that a great word?" Others preach and later there is no word, only tears and silence. It was as if God spoke to a frail vessel, a man named Leonard Ravenhill. I heard they said things like, "he never turned off his Christianity," and that he walked in the spirit. I heard him say things like "my greatest ambition in life is to be on Satan's most wanted list," and "the only time you really can say that Christ is all you need is when Christ is all you have." I heard them talk of his prayer life and called him a "man of God." I heard him say, "a sinning man stops praying and a praying man stops sinning," and "your doctrine could be as stright as a barrel of a gun, and just as empty." This man lived in the same time as I, had the same tempations, and yet was able to so beautifully walk with God. He was dangerously astounding - a real peek into the power of God to change a man through His gospel. Ah! Lord, be pleased to raise up more Leonard Ravenhills today; be pleased to work in me as you did him!
