Bible Study pt 12

I'm going to be honest here. I really didn't know what to expect for this Monday's Bible study, and so like the overly worried and pessimistic person that I am, I assumed the worst. Yet - and I say this both to glorify God, and to encourage Carlos - this study ended up being one of the best studies that I've attended. Carlos (C -Los), was the speaker for this week's study, and he expounded on two of the communicable attributes of God, namely "God's Immutability and God's Omnipotence. Let's define the terms:

Omnipotence - "God's omnipotence means that God is able to do all his holy will" (Wayne Grudem Systematic Theology pg. 216)

Immutability - "God is unchanging in his being, perfections, purposes, and promises, yet God does act and feel emotions, and he acts and feels differently in response to different situations" (Wayne Grudem Systematic Theology pg. 163).

In this study we discussed a myriad of topics and discussed in depth, the implications of the fore mentioned attributes of God. We also looked at the logical conclusions to open theism, and Armininan thinking. For instance, we discussed the scriptural teaching of God's absolute sovereignty in that all things - yea, even what we may perceive as "bad" things - and how they happen because God has ordained them to occur. I really enjoyed looking at the scriptural support for this, as well as the logical ends for those who believe otherwise. Believing otherwise may seem safe and complimenting to God, but in reality these unscriptural thoughts provide no hope for believers, and ultimately rob God of his "Godness." This was an awesome study, and I wish I were able to record it! Last but certainly not least, this is worthy of mentioning: There was a new person at our Bible study; a woman we meet while doing some witnessing on Saturday at the market (check story here). She was a blessing to have, and I look forward to seeing her next week.

Good job, Carlos! Glory to God!!
