"...always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you" (1 Peter 3:15)
I thank the Lord for today's Sunday School, and for using my friend Josh to finally make sense of how the Eastern "both-and" philosophy, is contradictory to the second law of logic, namely the law of non-contradiction.Here's what I feel may be the crux of the matter with all unbelievers, whether they be atheist or Hindu, and how apologetic relates to their situation: We know that we cannot sway anyone to believe upon the Christ, but rather "God must give the increase and open a person's heart to believe the message of the gospel" (1 Co 3:16, Acts 16:14). That said however, using good apologetics can be beneficial as it will cause the Non-Christian to see that not only is their world-view is wrong, but that they use their world-view as a reason to not believe the gospel. And so the scriptures are fulfilled when it says, "men loved the darkness more than light because their deeds are evil" (John 3:19), and again... "men by their unrighteousness suppress the truth" (Romans 1:18).
Christians need to study apologetics not only because it prevents us from giving the surface, "because the bible says so" type response, but it causes us to intelligently give a response for the hope that lies within us. Furthermore, since apologetics is a Biblical commission (1 Peter 3:15), we need to diligently seek ways in order to glorify God in our witnessing. Thus the great command to "love God with all of your mind" is practically being worked out.
